Not bad. But with all that buildup I expected a better twist/payoff.

    Interesting. Like what?

Like what kmerrittdotcom said -- I loved the setup and the visuals, the intimations of drama. Then it was for a gum, and I found it a bit of letdown. Also, the kiss was a bit overplayed, after the trucks I got that they were inseparable. After that it felt flat.

Maybe it should have started with them kissing. Who are they? Why are they kissing? Why is she dressed as a bride and he like a workman? Then little by little, forces come into play that try to separate them.

    Shame its for a gum.

Agreed, nicely done. It's nice to see a spot that actually reinforces the product with strong symbolism instead of just trying to make you laugh. Hat tip to the agency that created it.
  • laffy · 1 month ago
making people laugh is the most noble pursuit of any piece of advertising.

I thought it was to buy something
  • Robert Coats · 1 month ago
Noble, perhaps. But if our intent is just to make the audience laugh, we should have chosen stand-up instead of advertising.
  • paco · 1 month ago
    Some of us do both.
  • Robert Coats · 1 month ago
Yes, some of us do. And humor is used very effectively in the above ad because it is used in a manner that reinforces the products selling points. That is one of the things that makes this a great ad.

I agree with daveed. Maybe I missed something but I thought there was going to be some sort of twist or better payoff as well. Especially with all that Bride & average-dressed man stuff.

    So. Very. Tired.

Or, to put it another way, "So kiss a little longer, longer with Big Red ..."

Overall, I liked it a lot. However, it's for a freaking gum. Whoever said chewing a gum will make you want to kiss someone? You only use gum when got some stank ass breath and there's no mouthwash or toothpaste around. Exactly what makes gum for kissing different from normal gum? I smell a slick piece of fakery.
That being said. What twist was anybody expecting? It's a building spot. They bombed the freaking couple what else could there be? A twist would've been a joke on top of a big joke.
It is beautifully shot executed. Too bad it's another South American fake.

I will now go all forum troll and disagree. Saccharine, cheesy, poor special effects. Effectively says, "our minty gum will make you want to kiss." Not ground breaking and overly sentimental from my point of view.

i'm with trk on this one. really do not like this spot. way overdone for a gum commercial.
  • daveed · 1 month ago
Now this is one of the best commercials that I've seen, and damned if I know what it's about: http://dandydwarves.com/index.php/projects/syno...
  • jjkk · 1 month ago
that's unbelievable. I'm flabbergasted. Awesome. WTF?
  • Kelly Sherman · 1 month ago
    about that...
  • billy_ocean · 1 month ago
If I didn't check out the comments, I would have had no idea it was for gum. I thought it was for diamonds.

Am I crazy or do all the songs used in advertising come from the Grey's Anatomy soundtrack?
  • rwordplay · 1 month ago
Well, certainly amusing, but really a gum for kissing? OK, a nice positioning although I don't buy it (literally or figuratively). Well, why the hell not. My only serious criticism for a spot that willingly opens itself for criticism is 1: All that activity should have ripped their clothes off, which would have made the couple more memorable and, 2: the music underneath was particularly annoying.
  • daisytagger · 1 month ago
This would have been better if it was an ad for her washing machine or other utilitarian device. "I love it to death do us part." Totally wrong for gum. In fact, plain weird for gum.
